Exhibition “Nomads of Our Time” on the Bungsberg

“Promotion”: From the museum on Sylt, the touring exhibition “Nomads of our time. Migrant sheep farms in Schleswig-Holstein” on to Ostholstein. Since September 25, 2025, it has been presented by the Sparkasse Holstein Foundations on the Bungsberg, the highest point in the state. The venue is the modern gallery. “Bungsberg Experience” – an extracurricular learning center supported by Sparkasse Holstein.

In his welcoming address at the exhibition opening, Sören Westphal, Head of SMEs and Board Representative of Sparkasse Holstein, said:

Transhumance is one of the oldest and most traditional forms of European pastoral livestock farming and is considered environmentally friendly and close to nature. It has been recognized as intangible cultural heritage in Germany since 2018. Holger Rüdel's photographs of transhumance provide impressive insights into the lives of this unique way of working and living. Our guests and visitors can look forward to expressive images of a reality that, for many, is simultaneously far removed from reality. This theme fits perfectly with our focus on environmental and nature work at Erlebnis Bungsberg.

The project “Nomads of our time. Travelling sheep farms in Schleswig-Holstein” was largely funded by the European Union and the state of Schleswig-Holstein.

The exhibition is directed by Sparkassenstiftung Schleswig-Holstein Shown at several locations since 2023; at the "Erlebnis Bungsberg" gallery until December 14, 2025.
Opening hours: Monday to Friday 10am-15pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am-17pm.
