Experience it virtually: The decisive moment. Sports photographs by Lukas Schulze
nos.FOTOMENTA: Under this umbrella brand, the Nord-Ostsee Sparkasse (Nospa) launched the first exhibition in a new series of events in October 2017.
“In the future, sophisticated exhibitions and lectures with photographers and photo artists will take place regularly in our business area,” explained CEO Thomas Menke on the occasion of the premiere. “With this offer we want to do our part to sustainably enrich the cultural scene in our region.”
According to projects with Robert Marc Lehmann and Peter Rathmann In Flensburg, Schleswig and Westerland, the Nord-Ostsee Sparkasse presented the photo artist in Flensburg from November 2019 to February 2020 Luke Schulze – one of the most creative and talented young sports photographers in Germany.
With extreme perspectives, extraordinary focal lengths and the intelligent use of sharpness and blur, he manages to stand out from the masses of his colleagues. In a word: Lukas Schulze shows in his work that sports photography can also be art.
Virtual tour with Lukas Schulze
After Flensburg, the exhibition, which I supported as curator, was originally supposed to be shown at the Nospa regional directorate in Schleswig from mid-March to the end of June 2020. However, due to the current regulations to contain the corona pandemic, it cannot currently be visited.
Therefore, on the initiative of Birthe Thiel and Thomas Beirer from the Nospa headquarters in Flensburg, the idea arose to present the exhibition online as a virtual tour with Lukas Schulze as “guide”.
A catalog has been published for the exhibition in the PHOTOGRAPHIA BOREALIS series of the Sparkassenstiftung Schleswig-Holstein (No. 18) with texts by, among others, Göttrik Wewer (DFB-Kulturstiftung) and Matthias Hangst. The publication was sponsored by Nikon.
Following the work of Peter Rathmann (2019), the Sparkassenstiftung Schleswig-Holstein will also show Lukas Schulze's pictures this year in its rooms on Faluner Weg in Kiel.
