Iceland 2019

In his opulent Iceland illustrated book, the Swedish nature photographer Hans Strand writes in the introduction:
Many features of Iceland's unique landscape have become iconic tourist attractions. People from all over the world come to view waterfalls, glaciers and volcanoes. With increased tourism in recent decades, it is hard to replicate the original, true wilderness experience I had 23 years ago when I first came to Iceland to document the landscape. Today you are forced to enjoy these beautiful places alongside busloads of tourists.
Given these difficult conditions, does it make sense to approach subjects that have already been photographed thousands of times - and often excellently? During a trip around Iceland in June 2019, Holger Rüdel took on this challenge.
The 31 photographs in the exhibition showed some little-known places on the island in the North Atlantic, but also - sometimes from a new perspective - popular destinations such as the Goðafoss and Kirkjufellsfoss waterfalls and the Jökulsárlón glacial lake in the southeast of Iceland.
The exhibition was a project of the Fotoclub Schleswig e. v.
Exhibition location: Schleswig City Museum, December 5, 2019 to March 15, 2020.
The magazine “Lebensart im Norden”, among others, reported on the exhibition in its January 2020 edition.
Pictures from this exhibition are available as FineArt prints in many versions.
