Steve McCurry is one of the most influential voices in contemporary documentary photography and humanist photojournalism. His work impressively combines portraiture, history, and visual storytelling. The connection to my own projects arose during a retrospective I curated with him in 2008/2009 – in partnership with Magnum Photos and the Städtische Galerie Iserlohn. The exhibition was shown at the Stadtmuseum Schleswig in 2009, with the photographer in attendance, and was accompanied by a separate lecture series.
